FAQ

Wood Staining questions, answered.

Don't see your question? Call us at 515-321-8849.

What is the difference between wood staining and wood painting?

Painting completely covers the surface in a solid, opaque color. Staining penetrates the wood fibers to highlight the natural beauty, texture, and grain patterns of the wood, adding color without covering up its character.

How many coats of stain and clear coat do you apply?

Generally, we apply one coat of wood conditioner, 1 to 2 coats of premium stain (depending on the depth of color desired), and 2 coats of a durable, clear protective sealer like polyurethane.

Can you match the stain to my existing floors or furniture?

Yes! Our experienced crew performs color tests on wood samples to find the exact tone and opacity needed to seamlessly match your home's existing woodwork, cabinetry, or flooring.

How long does the stain and clear coat take to cure?

While the surface is usually dry to the touch in 4 to 8 hours, it takes about 24 to 48 hours for the clear coats to cure enough for heavy use or to put items back on shelves.

Will the sanding create a big mess in my house?

Not at all. We use advanced dust-containment sanding systems that capture wood dust right at the source, and we carefully mask off the work area with plastic to keep the rest of your home completely clean.
